An area of translation I have been doing is medical translation. I have an affinity for sciences, like biology, chemistry, anatomy and so on. Moreover, as some medical articles are only available in English, translating them is a way to spread certain information that can help people make informed decision.

Though I spent half of my high school sitting in laboratories attending science classes, my focus during university wasn’t in this area, so I need to do some self-education first in order to translate those texts accurately.

I only have less than a year experience so not sure if it helps, but these strategies work for me.

Read medical articles published on journals like “Nature”, or sites with health info like NIH, Mayo Clinic, etc, or books, so that I can know more about what diseases there are, updates on development on therapy and so forth.

If I want a better understanding on organs and how our bodies work, I will read my high school biology textbooks and youtube videos (which explain the concepts quite clearly), say, videos from Khan Academy and Dr Matt & Dr Mike.

Ask a friend who knows about it. I think I can remember it better than when I google it. (nothing wrong with googling it though, don’t want to bug our friends too often either lol)
