I ve translated a few literary works during uni and translating literature can be quite challenging, because of the cultural differences, underlying meanings in words in source texts, technical stuff and so forth. I ve heard people say that occasionally it is so difficult that it is as if the authors deliberately write in a way that doesn’t allow their works to be translated. (Just a joke of course)

Despite the difficulty, there are several good things about it. I can read many stories, decoding the subtext of scenes and figuring out the psychological development of characters can be interesting, and it helps refine language skills, especially when compared with translating technical documents.
